BLOG POST #10: Resonances/ Questions/Critiques

I must start this blog with a question. What if youth spaces were nonexistent? There is so much onus put on youth organizations where at times they are held as safe havens and sometimes the cure-all for today's youth. In the article "Chillaxing" most of the students found the New Urban Arts to be a safe place where they can be creative and more importantly be themselves. On the other hand, some students found the NUA to be space where they issues were magnified due to the embodiment of the matter at hand. But as youth enter the doors of a youth programs the internal struggle, ills and issues that they have enters with them. As youth become more mature and develop the articulation to speak up and ask for assistance in their immediate settings, they will have less pressure. What does that mean? Utilizing their first contact such as their parents or other authoritative figures in their life to get burning questions answered about life. Granted if they have these people at their disposal is paramount for their long-term success. As youth organizations serve as safe spaces, incredible learning environments and a place of great socialization. Youth Organizations are important for our youth’s development, but youth development starts in the home. What resonances and amplified with me it the ladder of the six P's. Which is permission, process, passion, productivity, participation and pleasure. These six principles were stated in the article "Shall we Play", and the descriptions are definitively what a youth should experience during the plight as a they learn. This process gives the youth structure that is seemingly unconscionably learning but really is not. Due to the youth being in the moment but more importantly it is hands on learning. My biggest critique is the onuses that are put on Youth organizations to save our youth. Yes, youth organizations are great spaces for safety, success and socialization but they cannot do it all. At times, the complacency of having our youth attend as a parent you can miss something if you are not in tune with your youth's development.
